Techniques To Overcome Fears From A Fresh Perspective

The first step to overcoming fear is to accept a few truths about fear. The first one is we are in the habit of clinging to our fears. There are so many reasons for this and many people, this becomes second nature. Sometimes the feeling of losing something, even if it may be detrimental to one’s well-being, can be the limiting factor preventing us from finally letting go.

But giving up fears should never be a trial and there is no need to place pressure on yourself. This is the second truth to consider. The process of conquering fear should happen naturally and at your own pace. Also, it’s time to accept that not all fear is bad for you. Much can be learned from our fears as long as we don’t allow them to take control of our lives.

If you are here it’s because you already acknowledge that it’s about time you got the upper hand on life’s most debilitating emotion. Here are some easy ways you can take back the power that fears have stolen from you.

Look at fears in the third person

This is the vital first step towards overcoming fear. Most people are not even aware that fears are responsible for bringing their lives to a standstill. This is because we allow all thoughts and emotions to get the better of us. At times it can seem as though nothing deserves our attention as much as our feelings. When this is allowed to go on it causes the fine line between thoughts and reality to become blurred.

So in effect, we let fears, which exist only in our minds and not in tangible reality, have power over us. Separate yourself from your fears and recognise them for what they are. You are not defined by them, you merely experience them.

Beat imagination with action

All our fears are created by our imagination which can no doubt be a powerfully convincing force of the human mind. (Heap, 2016)

However, just like a bad dream, they exist only in your mind’s eye. Experience which you hold the reigns to experiencing is easily within reach. All you have to do is take action against your fears, no matter how trivial they may seem.

Reality always trumps images in your mind. So take a little courage and get to do the things you love to do. You will find your fears become weaker when you’ve built up more memories of things that worked despite the fears that held you back. Eventually, you’ll realise even when things don’t go exactly as planned, they are not nearly as terrible as the fears you harbour inside.

Develop a fresh perspective

A great part of the process of beating your fears lies in how you deal with thoughts you feel are out of your control. It is completely natural to experience fleeting thoughts and there is nothing wrong with the mind exploring the ugly side of life. Here is where negativity can seem to be the ruling party but he is not so. (En.wikipedia.org, 2016)

Remember that thought are either strengthened or weakened depending on the amount of focus we accord them. So if we starve off negative thoughts by not taking them seriously we effectively reduce the power they have over us. Placing too much emphasis on the negative is our own doing and can be stopped by changing our perspective. See your fears for what they are – thoughts pretending to be accurate predictors of your future, which is impossible.

Most of the time no one is to blame except yourself for blowing things out of proportion. Nip your fears in the bud by keeping an open mind. Life is always so full of possibility, fears notwithstanding.

Hypnotherapy may hold the ultimate key to conquering fears

To be the master of your fears, you have to understand them deeply. As we know fears stem from associated feelings we have about a particular situation. We call these the triggers of fear. Hypnotherapy can help you conquer your fears by reconfiguring the pathways in your mind so they respond differently completely averting the triggers.
